At least your wife does pay attention, at least at that moment. Mine was mowing pasture with lawnmower (she's logged more hours with it in pasture than it's logged in lawn) when she stopped to talk with me and I asked her "how long has that squelling noise been there?", she responds with "ummm, a while I think". A blade spindle was 'screaming' for grease. Last time I attempted to mow lawn I noticed not cutting right. Turns out when she gets off she steps on raised deck. Now I get to replace lift cables as well as spindle. GRRRR!!! I drove her truck and asked how long brakes been like this? Looked at me like I was a idiot and asked 'What's wrong with brakes? Yup, a month later I was replacing blown brake line in a snowstorm! To her benefit she notices EVERY scratch a horse gets (and there's 11 of them out there).
