A line of credit with a bank is almost required to farm. A successful farmer is one who finally can put in and harvest a crop without borrowed funds, but it usually took years to get to that point with some good harvests and good luck. I have seen farmers sell their planting equipment and other equipment to pay for harvest, then buy more used equip to plant the next year etc. Also seen good farmers have to fold up when the crop did not pay the notes. The only farmers I see making it these days inherited their land and use it for collateral for loans.
