Yes , John that is what the MSD does. The Mallory the rotor has windows that pass through the photocell and trigger it like that. There is also gauges to set the amount of advance from fully retarted. They sell you a set of guages for 39 dollars to do this but someone posted the corresponding drill sizes to the guages and amount of degrees for each size. So I hope to save buying the guage kit. One thing that bothers me is the Mallory only retards to 15 degrees from 35 full advance. Stock Harley retart is to 5 degrees . 15 may be a little kick back when kick starting at 15 .
