Back in the late 80's I had to travel in my work, usually two or three days at a time, spending nights in motels while I was out. I had been out for three nights and was coming up my drive and saw my dad sitting on a stump out by the drive. My parents and I lived on ten acres out in the country next door to each other. I stopped and he handed me a package that had come earlier that day in the mail. Confused, I asked him why he was there waiting to give it to me.
The bottom line is that it was from one of the motels I had stayed at the first night out. Turns out I had left a travel clock there and someone was kind enough to mail it to my home address. I'm not sure what my dad was thinking, but he wanted me to get it before anyone else on the place saw it just in case...At the time I was in my forties, I appreciated his protecting me but I questioned what he thought of me as well!
