Back in 2001 when we were doing duty in NYC after 9/11 one of our guys got assigned to a bridge for security with a mess of NYC cops. He kept seeing trucks going through hauling sand and stone, nothing related to 9/11, just normal stuff. Finally he talked to the NYC guys and they pulled a few over and weighed them. Units that should have been limited to 80K lbs were hauling as high as 150K! No one down there knew anything about it or why their roads and bridges were breaking up. We never did find out if NYC changed their habits on overweights or not.
