The Generator works at POS or NEG Ground and will begin charging at the Polarity to which its Polarized SO BE SURE TO POLARIZE IT BEFORE STARTING THE TRACTOR lest you harm the Voltage Regulator.
To Polarize use a small jumper wire and momentarily flash jump from BAT on the VR over to its GEN/ARM terminal (or down to ARM on Genny) and you should get a small spark.
Some VR"s work at either polarity, others may be labeled for POS or NEG Ground. Many can still work if wrong however the coating on the relays may burn off prematurely. Id advise a VR to match the Genny that"s labeled suitable for your NEG ground although yours may work fine as is, it may work but fail prematurely, I just cant say.
Sounds like you already took care of coil and ammeter.
