JD, I think I do understand what is going on in Missouri. It's called "exploitation of opportunity". This is certainly not the first time and it won't be the last.

The "opportunity exploiters" consist of several groups with different motives. There are first the genuinely outraged whe feel, rightly or wrongly, that an injustice has been done. Then there are the hotheaded trouble-makers who like to stir up trouble just to break the monotony of their work-unencumbered time.

Many of these hotheads like not only the excitement, but the opportunity to do some shopping in neighborhood businesses, with the hope that the thing can escalate to the mall across town.

Next come the professional rabble-rousers and exploiters who follow TV satellite trucks like cattle egrets follow a haybine. Their power to shake down corporations and local governments comes from the degree of exposure they accumulate in front of the lens.

And of course, there's the media itself, rushing to the scene because they think they already know what happened and they wish to root out news stories, accurate or not, that support their preconceptions. Many of these folks are fresh young faces straight out of the cookie-cutter journalism schools, who never had an original or independent thought in their brains, but who are eager to advance their careers with reports that conform to the group narrative and please their distant bosses.

Also there are the politicians who are eager to figure out which way public opinion is heading and jump out in front of it, holding the flag.

So, that's my understanding of it, JD.

To give it bit of perspective, here's a news report about another incident that occurred about the same time:

"While national news media continue to focus on race in Ferguson, Missouri, where a white police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teenager, they apparently don’t think a similar case in Utah with the races reversed is that newsworthy.

Police in Salt Lake City are continuing their probe into an Aug. 11 shooting outside a 7-Eleven convenience store, when a black police officer, whom local media are referring to as “not white,” shot and killed 20-year-old Dillon Taylor, who was unarmed at the time, according to his supporters.

Police Chief Chris Burbank said the entire incident was captured on the body camera of the officer who shot Taylor.

“You will see on camera … the actions of everyone involved, including up to the point where our officer utilizes deadly force and his response thereafter,” Burbank told reporters.

He said the video, along with the officer’s identity, will be released at the “appropriate” time, adding it could be days, weeks or months."

I ask you: where were the TV trucks? Did Al Sharpton spring to defend the honor of the dead man? Which stores were looted? Did the governor of Utah demand a "vigorous prosecution" of the black officer who pulled the trigger?

I have no thoughts on the shooting itself. This may have been a guy who should have been shot long ago. The interesting part is that the MEDIA decided they shouldn't report the police officer's race, saying instead that he was "other than white". Yet, the 'media' denies that it is biased in its reporting.

Yes, I understand, and I'll understand the next time it happens. My prediction is that in the future the incidents that provoke such outbreaks are going to become more prevalent and not necessarily dependent upon a death. Cops, put on your kid gloves.
