If you don"t want to ruin everything with heat then the best way to loosen them up is your favorite magic juice and a good air chisel with a hammer bit. Just keep on soaking and rattling and they will come loose. You will probably hear the change in the sound when it starts coming loose. Trust me, it works. I"m from MA too and work for a town DPW, there ain"t nothing rustier than an old salt spreader. HTH Jf
