Turn engine over to TDC on #1 cyl. TDC mark should be visible on flywheel thru bottom inspection hole. According to my IT manual the mag should click when you do this and the rotor should be in between the #1 and #2 plug wires. (Which on an OEM mag will be 12 O'clock.) The click of the mag sends it pass the #1 plug position. All mags should be marked for #1 position either #1 printed on outside of cap or a raised area/lug on inside housing under cap.
