Worst place for panhandlers I've ever dealt with was in Colorado Springs. I was walking into a fairly nice restaurant where several panhandlers were working the street. Apparently I don;t look that approachable because none asked me for anything - untill I got close to the door. Then I got hit up by a very pushy woman wanting me to give her $20. I told her no I wouldn't give her $20 then asked her to give me $50. That shut her up and she went to go bother someone else.
When I came in I commented to the waitstaff that if they got any pushier outside they'd start losing customers - starting with me. The waiter gave a nasty look and said most of them are employed - they're just trying to add to their income. It's easier than taking a second job waiting tables or something - like he was. He complained how lifting the customer's money on the way in had a way of reducing tips.
