I'm not a vet, but one of my dogs that is gone now developed a kidney problem, and the vet said that it was due to high protein levels. I fed my dogs a lot of beef, and I'm certain that if my vet back then was correct, that I did him in. Acutally, he lived a happy healthy life for a couple of years after being diagnosed and cured, but wen it came back, it came back with a vengence and I had to do the humane thing and have him put to sleep. While he was sick, the vet had me boiling beef and mixing it with rice to feed him. As dogs become older, I understand that its better to cut back on protein for at least their kidneys.
