However, I just look at it that all things are a balance -- and the situation is just part of the risk I accept for living in a (sort of) free society. I don't, and won't, live in a place where the government can inspect my vehicles or look too closely over my shoulder. Yes, we are required to have insurance in Kansas but many do as you suspect and drop it right after they buy their tag. Unless you have a wreck there is no penalty (and even if you have a wreck the penalty for not having insurance is minor) and we are free to be stupid.
Also, I understand what you mean about that one segment of society that is known for this practice, but after 21 years on the street as a police officer I can tell you that low class trashy people of the majority race are no better, if not worse.
I am glad you are not seriously injured and that your family (I guess - you didn't say) is not hurt as well.
