You ever been around a plane thats going into storage - the SECOND thing they do is drain the fuel and purge the fuel system (first is drain the oil and refill with preservation oil to stop internal rust). High octain does nothing to prevent fuel from gumming up or keep water from entering the fuel system. QUality Avgas has special stabilizers to make it stay good fora year - but the same thing can be accomplished with Marine Stabil and some care in storage.
