: Boy, you must have really paid attention in school. Seriously, that was pretty darn informative. Thanks for the info. I have a stuck engine from an old Willys Jeep I've been trying to unstick. I was planning to rebuild it anyhow, but you gave me even more reason to do so.
Like has been said previously, an unstuck engine will run, but it must be considered a temporary fix to a tear down. Rings will stick in aluminum pistons, and cylinder walls will pit. So if you want to defer tearing down the old engine until the restoration is nearly complete, or the immediate job is done, by all means, do so. You will not cause any more damage to the engine than has already occurred. Of course, if you live in a Smog Control area, the authorities will not look kindly on your activities until you do a full rebuild.
On the recommendation of an old JD nut, I tried Restore engine treatment in my old Case, and then in my 350 engine in my Chevy 3/4 ton before going on vacation. It does indeed cut down on oil burning and increased compression, but must be considered to be a temporary bandaid until a re-ring or rebore job. So do what fits your situation, and best motoring.

Today's Featured Article - Ford Part Number Trivia - by Forum Participants. "Replaced by" means the part was superseded. All of my part books date back to 1964 and New Holland have changed some part numbers. They usually put the old Ford part number on the package. I was suppressed when I looked up the part number of the auxiliary drive shaft because for some reason the part number went through a radical change and it lost its "Basic Part Number". Ford part numbers follow the following rules. Most part numbers are in three parts. The middle part is called the ... [Read Article]
