Tell her for me how worried a person can be.
I'm 79 years old with diabetes suffering from neuropathy, had my last nine teeth pulled and dentures made, having problems with the dentures but will get them worked out. Tell her I was scared to death about surgery at my age and health issues would cause me not to wake up. I met with the surgeon prior to any surgery talked quite awhile and explained my fears.

I found the surgeon to be understanding and visited all options available to me.Non anethesia was what I chose and he agreed because I could have choked on phlem (as I also have asthma,COPD) the cataract on the left eye was old and extremely hard, procedure took about 1/2 hr to do not counting the physical preop and paper work. The paper work took the most time.
They will give her a thorough work up and she should find them very kind and considerate. Knowing what I know now I would have had it done years ago. The reason I had it done was from people on this forum gave me great advice and support. My son has been invaluable to me thru every issue I've been plagued with,as I am sure you will be for your Mom. Your mother should know hat she has a great opportunity to revisit youthful experiences and would be able to contribute to the family. Going blind only creates additional hardship not only to herself but to other members of the family.THAT WAS MY MAIN INSPIRATION. As long as I'm alive I still have obligations to my family to be able to help in what limited fashions I can, being able to see is extremely important to the contributions I can make. Now that I have eyesight again. It will be so for your mother. I just couldn't take going blind as I'm the kind of individual who relishes seeing beauty the Good Lord has created.
Tell her whatever she decides must be because her desire and interest will be in helping the family and herself. The saying "God helps those who helps themselves" in her case having her eyesight restored will be proof of the pudding. I wish her sucess and she will be in my prayers. My true belief is women are much stronger than men and hold more compassion than any man I've known and I've known some strong men. I'm sure she will be fine and if she goes for the interview have her discuss with the surgeon her fears and considerations.Bless her heart, with warmest regards,
LOU
