I've been approached many times on the "out of gas, need cash" scam. I must have a kindly face, or look gullible. I did fall for one thing... while getting gas at a truck stop many years ago on the way back from a show this guy approaches and says this fellow in the back just hit the lottery and is giving away $20 bills, wants to share the wealth with all his fellow travellers. Guy was very convincing and I was a bit numb in the head from driving for several hours and I was waiting for the girls to get back from the potty so I locked the truck and went with him. These guys appear from no where and start throwing money and cards around. Turns out he was just recruiting for a three card monty game. I said I didn't have any cash and got out of there quick. I'm a big guy so they probably didn't want to mess with me too much and I was younger and in better shape than any two of them, but I was pretty lucky.
