first get the specs on the correct filter. then spend a lot of time on the different manufactures web sites most of them give you the specs on there filters. look at the important specs .I think if you look hard enough the manufactures have cross references. one of the most common filters out there the PH8A or the wix equivalent that I am using fits my truck and use it on a Briggs 18hp,
