There is a dog proof leg hold trap for coons that works great. It is called Coondagger. It won't break the coons leg, but the coon won't get away either. Bait it with sardines or marshmallow. The rest is up to you. Some people trap them and then take them somewhere and let them lose. A male coon has about a 8 mile radius that it roams and the female about 3 miles.
