Its fairly easy and common to convert from the Generator and Voltage Regulator over to an internally regulated alternator (may need need some bracket modifications) and most alternators require Negative Ground. The one wire is easy while the older Delco 10SI family of three wire alternators is usually much cheaper although they require a few minor wiring additions.
