When we sold up in 1996 we were getting about �100 per tonne. The following year it dropped to �60 (Ouch!) Not only that it was a very wet harvest and by the time most of it had been dried down enough ( i.e. the cost of the electricity, gas etc) to sell it was worth 50% of sod all. Talk about lucky escape! Its about �130 now but that is still only 30 quid more than we were getting 18 years ago.
