A couple of weeks ago I had our mastiff, Molly into the vet for her annual. She's estimated to be between 5 and 7 years old. We got her from a rescue. She came out of Kentucky and was a puppy mill. Obviously beaten, she's afraid of virtually everyone and every thing, especially men, including me. But she's getting better every day. So I took her to the vet and she was so scared of him that she kept coming and sitting between my legs, looking up at me to please protect her. The vet was very good, kind and gentle with her as he has been with all of our scrappers, and each and every last one of our dogs have been scrappers, throw aways after past owners were through with them, having had no use for things like not being able to breed anymore like Molly. But as e and I talked and I told him that with every dog that we've had, that I had to take to put to sleep, that I had to bury, each one was the best breed that I ever had. Without missing a beat, he responded, "Isn't great when our last dog is always the best one that we ever had, even though the ones before them were every bit as good?". He was right too.

Sorry to hear about your loss, and ones future as well, because with every last dog that I have to be the one to do what is humane, sending them into the next world, peacefully as I can, I always say, "No more. I'm done. I'm not going through that again. NO!" And then we run across some big scrapper that someone threw away, homeless, hungry, thirsty, looking for love, companionship, somewhere to call home and lay down at, and...the next best dog ever had, every bit as good as the rest of them up there on the hill, buried under an oak tree looking down on us tossing a ball or something...

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
