Rich, the 2011 has some notable differences between later years. Dad's 2011 only gives you warnings at the mileage increments. (Or its supposed to anyway) The 2011 also does not have as insulated of a DEF tank as later models. From what I have read this was a bit of a problem in Canada as far as the DEF fluid freezing.
My 2014 has a menu option on the drivers information center that says "DEF FLUID: OKAY". I have yet to see any message other than "okay"
I myself would have preferred a dipstick, sight glass, or a real gauge on the gauge cluster. to monitor the DEF levels. Knowing now that we may not get the notification to add some more, I can assure you that we will keep it filled up.
