Hi Jen, As you have not welded for 35 years/ and old rods I will be polite and say I"ve seen worse, in truth I have a used loader here, I pulled from an old tractor looks way worse!. I guess as you seem to be into off the grid living and recycling. it might be time to go get new welding rods, and recycle the old ones as paint stir sticks, or something else much more useful than for welding. With the new rods you will be surprised how much better things go. I was doing a project for a customer and ran out of my usual brand rod.I Tried something else that was on the shelf in town. I can weld good but with the change in appearance of the weld, I could of upped my welding rate $20 an hour L.O.L please Show us some more pictures with the new rods, when you get them. That weld is not really fair to comment on now. Regards Robert
