I am familiar with White, and I have that "Hello old friend" feeling when I see one.... It's just my experience with parts and getting work done that want me to move from Agco stuff. I see the 120s etc on Tractorhouse and there is one that looks pretty nice possibly with that recent overhaul and clutch etc., but far away. I don't read anything bad about them either. This area just did not have many Whites around. I've been in the Agco dealer that's 30 miles away several times trying to do business. Minor issues to major issues personally, plus stories I know to be true, I'd imagine a root canal would be more fun than some of the times, and cost of stuff and services, Deere is cheaper than them, what I've seen, even things like hydraulic oil. I don't think they do much business, and going into any other dealer, just "feels" better walking through the door, friendlier vibe I guess.

Next closest Agco dealer is 65 miles away if I travel 30 miles of gravel (if it rains on the rare occasions it does, the road gets to be a big mess, as in if it rains enough, 4x4 mess), 75 miles away if I go mostly paved. That town is my closest Walmart. Also the closest New Holland and Kubota dealer (I hear some good things, but it's one of those that I don't know anyone that owns one). 15 miles away is a village with a small overpriced grocery store that I never go to. Small as in I would guess less than 2000 square feet and one register. That and a gas station are the only retail stores. If I need any supplies, say socks, it's 30 miles one way. So driving a distance is just part of the deal with anything.

Ford/New Holland. One neighbor farms with newer New Holland stuff, but I do not see any Fords around anywhere, I will try looking again, if I can find one within driving distance I will look. My neighbor likes the newer stuff.

I did have a cab. But when I'm haying with a baler I leave the windows open and attempt to reduce wind blowing in my direction for very long. I can hear my baler, and the one time I had a bearing go out while baling, I smelled it. I go over the baler before starting, I've caught every bad bearing/issue before baling except one, so far. And I walk around it sometimes while it's running. Winter, I will agree, heater is very nice.

5088 electronics. I just read the troubleshooting that goes on in forums when say the high side goes out or something. Unplugging this, checking pressure with that, switching wires/solenoids, could be Sentry, etc. It's more to it than what I'm used to. I can handle that, it would just take a bit of getting used to (if there's ever an issue, of course). There are some around, and the mechanics think very, very highly of them here. I know someone that has one, he almost got another. He said he keeps the phone number of the mechanic with him for if he needs something. Me, it's sometimes been years in between calling someone, and when I call, I know what the issue is already or have an idea, it's just to get stuff done. If I see a good one, I'd probably get it.

Deere. The very first time I got in a newer one, a quad range 4230, I knew how to drive it. Easy shifting, nice cab. I know I would get along with one. Back when I looked for the White I looked at several Deeres. Around 8000 hours some had the quad gone through, over $8k if I recall correctly at the one dealer. It's just that any Deere I see around, they are like the ones I mentioned, 8 to 15k something hours and no recent work done. Which, I know old stuff will break, it would just be nice to find something that's closer to having been worked on, less chance of it breaking down when needed (maybe...). Like these closest ones, 10k hours on both, no work done, period, as far as they know. 8k I'd chance, maybe, but I don't know. One of the issues I over analyze I guess. I also know they use more fuel. Which, if it's reliable, not that big of an issue, but a consideration.

Case. I have heard good things about some of them. I don't know of any around, haven't seen any used sitting this time, or last time. Yet. I will look.

I've looked through every online resource I can think of, including the radio station's site, classifieds for papers, dealer sites, Tractorhouse, Ironsearch etc. Also Craigslist, but the towns it lists, closest is 100 miles away, and another one 120 or so from me, have to look through all of them to see stuff that's within driving distance. I wish they'd let a person set a radius or something in the searches. Posting, I haven't had much luck in the past, but could try again.

I hope to be able to have time to do some calling and maybe driving within a few days if nothing goes wrong. I do have some leads. Initial round I sent out many emails hoping to narrow things down, but of course none of them seem to ever write back to a basic question or two, they want a person to at least call, it would just be easier to narrow down first.

Thanks everyone.

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
