Have you priced gas? 2-stroke oil? bar-n-chain oil? chains? bars and other wear parts of a chainsaw? Taxes on the land? There's quite a bit of expense in that cheap firewood. Many of these expenses keep going up leaving less for his pocket.
When you put your name on the list, did you negotiate a price? Or did you just assume his prices were static?
As far as mill price, I have a tie mill just down the road that wants the logs unsplit and 9 feet long. Lots easier to spupply them then firewood.
Now, if I can get 80 cents a pound for a fat hog at the auction this year, why should I sell it for last year's price (50 cents)? Prices on commodities fluctuate. If you don't want to pay the 80 cents, then go buy a hog somewhere else. But while you're shopping around, my price might go up.
