Lou, when I was at Ft Knox a friend lived out in the country. His neighbor sold so timber, mostly white oak. The loggers came in and cut the trees off at the first major branch from the bottom. Land owner wanted to graze cattle in there so he told my friend that he could have the tree tops. We were getting the average of a full cord or more out of each top. We were selling it for 45 bucks a face cord in the late 90's. When I moved back to MN I found that guys were selling a full cord for about 65 bucks delivered. That wasn't good enough for me to bother with.
