The shaft on the left side had popped out of the holder. The lever was moving very hard so I put it in the "choke" setting and put a dash of powdered graphite on the plastic ramp and then cycled the lever though the whole range a few times. A little more graphite and it is working much easier.
Thanks for the help. You all may want to try the graphite too, didn't even make a mess with just a small amount of it.
