Although not specifically answering your question, I have to vote for blanching/cutting off of the cob.
I have tried many of the easier methods over the years and it is my opinion that this is yet another instance of finding no substitute for a little sweat and elbow grease.
Nice looking corn but you should have let that tomater "cook" awhile longer. lol
