I have the covers off the transmission. I am pretty confident that the issue is not there. The shafts turn smooth and noiseless. I am glad because I changed the main shaft bearings, they were a bear and I do not like to make mistakes.
There is a large bearing at the rear of the bell housing that has about 1/8 slop each way, so I am hoping that is the issue. I can take the 4 motor mount bolts loose and lift the whole engine up to get at this.
