I still can't understand why everyone slams Wal-Mart. At least it was a business that started small and grew into the giant it is now by giving the people/their customers what they wanted vs a mega company built with billions from the owner from day one. Some say they treat their employees unfairly, and on, and on. The same could be said for 99% of the companies out there now days, at least according to the unhappy employees working there. The way I see it, if someone doesn't want to work there they have plenty of opportunities to work elsewhere, but instead all they want to do is complain how unfair things are for them when the other 90% of the folks are happy as they can be and have little to no complaints. Not to mention, I see plenty of folks with disabilities working at Wal-Mart that other companies absolutely don't want on their staff. That, to me, says a lot.

That said, I guess I'll go against the grain here and say my wife and I buy the majority of our groceries from Wal-Mart, and have bought quite a few Wal-Mart steaks also. Around here there are nothing but chain stores for groceries, and most of them, like Lowes and Harris Teeter want to cater to the more affluent, citified crowd. The result of that is higher prices on a lot of items that don't need to be nearly that high. Think about it like this, a frozen pizza at one of the grocery stores is usually around $2 higher than the identical pizza at WM. With differences like that on too many items, it adds up to a lot over the course of a year. The way I see it, I would gladly frequent Mom and Pop operations if they existed, but when they don't, it's open season, and if the other large chains can't match another large chain on price, then they lose my business until they can.

That said, maybe my wife just has an uncanny ability to pick good steaks, but some of the ones we've bought at Wal-Mart have been just as tender, and tasted just as good, or were better in both ways, than some of the ones we've had at the local steak house. Too, it was a lot cheaper, and ultimately it hasn't killed either of us yet....
