A somewhat related observation: A month or so back I took my mother to the doctor. While in the waiting room I observed an ambulance pull up outside and paramedics go to work, apparently for assistance or pickup as they were not in a hurry.
Anyway, they get out of the ambulance and proceed to put on their blue medical gloves and start getting stuff out. With the gloves on they're opening the ambulance door, deploying the gurney, handling bags and equipment, wiping their nose, texting on personal cell phone, looking in wallet, opening building door....Everything done with the same gloves on! So what's the point of the gloves if you touch anything and everything including your own personal effects? As soon as the gloves are off and you go back to texting or open the door you get cross contamination.
I could imagine the same scenario happening in food service. They put the gloves on because that's what they're told to do and then run the register, clean the toilet and take out the trash and cook the food...probably with the same pair of gloves.
