Will the battery accept a charge from a battery charger? If it does then look for a bad wire or poor connection.
Original alternator will be a 10DN with an external voltage regulator near the clutch pedal.
You can use the above diagram for trouble shooting. With the key switch on you should have power at regulator terminals F, 3, and 4 as well as R at the alternator.
