It seems very normal. In Pre electronic ignition, the distributor was often equipped with a vacuum advance unit that provided substantial advance (variable) based on engine vacuum. The vacuum was measured (usually) in the carb throttle body below the throttle plate/s. IIRC as much as 8 degrees of advance could be attributed to the system on slow engines (2000rpm or so) or as much as 15 degrees on a Small block at 3000 to 3500rpm. Jim
