A few years ago I was coming home from work and needed to stop to get the mail. Since there was an oncoming car I had to pull in the drive and get out, instead of just pulling up to it and fetching the mail through the window. I thought I heard something but sort of dismissed it. Got the mail and heard it again. I went over to the other side of the car and heard a faint meowing. In the ditch beside the drive was a tiny calico kitten looking up at me. I reached down and it didn't try to run or hiss at me. So, I scooped it up and handed it to the wife through her window. We gave it to her mom who had lost her cat. She named it Lucky and had it spayed. Lucky, because the very next day the county mowed the ditches and she would have been ground cat (they use flail mowers). She stays with us when MIL is in Florida, always seems to remember me and crawls up in my lap at every chance.
