When I was a kid my mother scooped out the potato eyes cooked the potatoes and planted the eyes a few times. They bought potato's, after what she grew ran out, by the gunny sack and planted from those. I don't remember how many eyes she planted in a hill I would guess it was more than one. I have always quarter seed potato's making sure I had one or more of the eyes in each quarter. Dad and a neighbor planted a field of potato's one time I remember being around and they quartered several bags of potato's put some type of powdered stuff over them in a trailer. They filled the planter with a shovel out of the trailer. Dad pulled the planter with his B Farmall. Proply 70 years ago.
