: I have a farmall cub that runs for a while then quits. Someone has mentioned something about a vapor lock to me . what is a vapor lock and how do you repair the problem if it can be fixed.

I wouldn't think you have a vapor lock problem on a cub. Vapor lock is more likely to happen on a vehicle with hood or shroud that can trap heat in next to the engine where it heats up the fuel line or carburetor. Your Cub has the fuel line and carb hanging out in the breeze. My vote is for a fuel starvation problem. Try disconnecting the fuel line at the carb and then open the shutoff valve. If no fuel or if just a slow drip, then try taking off the gas cap. If it runs out now, you have a bad gas cap vent. If still no gas, take off the sediment bowl and open the shutoff valve. If still no gas, your shutoff valve is crudded up. Most crud can be cleaned out without draining the tank, since the crud settles in the lower part of the valve. May also be a clogged or pinched fuel line or a dirty carburetor.

My vote is for a fuel problem.

Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a ...
