Every garden tractor I've ever owned or serviced had notoriously weak front end and steering components.
I would end up replacing and redesigning just about everything. You can buy rod clevis ends from the bearing supply. They're much better than the original equipment. Use straight rod where ever possible, overkill everything!
In most cases, if you do some measuring and comparing, you can get more steering travel, equal turning both ways, and easier turning.
