I wonder if you couldn't use the filter base adapter and make a sediment bowl. Those are usually threaded in there. I envision a down leg that is about two inches long and a quart mason jar with brass mesh across the top. The hardest part would be making a bail to fix the jar up on there tight enough to seal. You could use a LONG U bolt across the housing that goes through a piece of strapping across the bottom of the jar.
I'm not saying the EPA would love it, but they would likely have a fit if they watched any of the Pioneer fittings around here drip. I try not to fuel up for a couple of days after the truck leaves.
