It probably has little to do with the fears of the manufacturer. Places like Home Depot can price goods even lower if they don't have to deal with returns, warranties, etc. A machine like this key thing is gravy to a store like Menards - they give them space for the machine, then get a few cents for every key made without ever having to another thing.
