my dad got an old cnc lablond lathe a long time ago. cnc was all robbed off it. he wired in like a common dimmer switch to move the saddle back n forth. worked great, but, lost the plastic knob once, and i tried to just turn the switch n got lit up like no tomarrow. lmao. still feel the ol ticker go haywire since that. lol. dont know if this helps or not. i can open up my email n take some pics of what he did to help.
