The filter is a washable micro screen and very hard to get clean, simply rinsing it in gas or diesel is not going to get it clean. Hot, hot water and soap, with repeated soaking is the best way I've found to clean it. A waxy coating from the oil is transparent and appears clean, but still plugs the micro screen. Rinse with the hot clear water and use an air gun to blow out the filter. When you think it is clean, stand it open end up and fill it with oil. If the oil does not run out and backs up in the filter it is not clean. It was still available from JD for a price $$$.
