An old friend of mines nephew's trailer burnt down
about 2 1/2 - 3 yrs ago. I just bought the place
next to him, and was inquiring about his nephews
property. As we went to look at it, I noticed an
old tractor, by the burnt trailer, with a tree top
on it. Long story short, it was a Leyland 154.
Me and my wife took my Long tractor, and drug it
out from under the tree top that fell on it. I
didn't think it was going to be much of a tractor,
at the time, but we went ahead & tied it up and
lifted the front of it up, and rolled it to our
house about a mile away. Once i got it to the
house, I started giving the old tractor a once
over, and that's when i seen it was a Leyland 154.
The fire from the trailer 3 years ago had burnt
the right front tire completely off the tractor,
the alternator belt, and alternator, right
headlight, part of the wiring harness, and melted
a little of the starter cylinoid. Other than
that, the tractor looked good. I have replaced
the alternator, alternator belt, wiring harness,
thermostat line and gage, two new tires on the
front with new tubes, and left rear tube in the
back tire. I put a new key switch, it needed pins
and the draw works. Oil in the engine looked
brand new. Oil in gear box looked good, just a
little low. I had to put hydraulic fluid in the
tank and top the radiator off with antifreeze.
Blew out injector lines and fuel lines. Cleaned
up the pickup pump. Cleaned up the fuel filter
and trying to find one at this time. Primed the
fuel lines & noticed 1 of the lines between the
injector had a small pinhole in it. I used JB
Weld on it and stopped the leak. Right now I am
looking for a cylinoid for the starter. It was
working, but the housing on the cylinoid was burnt
and cracked, and is now not working. The motor
turns over good, but I have not got it to crank
yet. One reason being, i need the cylinoid for
the starter, so that I can bleed the injectors.
Got a new battery on it. So if anybody knows
where I can get a cylinoid fast and cheap, please
let me know. And also, where the best place to
get parts for the little tractor. My wife has
fallen in love with it, and daggummit, I really
like the little tractor. It would be a great
addition to our little farm. It is so easy to
work on. I have never worked on something that
was so easy to get to under the dash, around the
motor. It's just an easy tractor to work on, and
I've worked on a lot of them. So if there's any
help anybody can give me, i would surely
appreciate it.

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
