One of my greatest learning moments came years ago when the Regional Manager sensed he had a large number of disgruntled employees in his region. The major complaint was that all the companies doing similar business paid their employees at a higher rate.
He stood up before the entire group, held a large bundle of paperwork in front of him, and stated "These are the resumes I have received this month from people wanting your jobs. If you feel you are worth more, you need to go find another job that pays what you think you are worth!"
Most everybody else felt insulted, demeaned, antagonized, and just downright pizzed off. I thought about what he had said and decided that, although he didn"t have much tact or management skills, he was absolutely right. I felt I was worth more money and also felt like an idiot for having to wait for another idiot to show me the light!
I left that company and when I did, I also left a letter of thanks to that manager for his motivational speech that had turned my financial career in the right direction.
