The 8****Are casting #.6943dj is engine SN.That tells me that is an early engine(1939?).So the tractor probably is,too.On the M,engine SN and tractor SN do not match. Look on major castings for a date code.The easiest place is just below/in front of the brake pedals on the transmission caseLooks something like this :8*16*Y.That reads August,16,1953.(thats on my SM)IH started with "A" in 1939,a different letter a year.
