: : : I have a farmall cub that runs for a while then quits. Someone has mentioned something about a vapor lock to me . what is a vapor lock and how do you repair the problem if it can be fixed. : : : Vapor lock is when gas boils. Then it can't get to engine. Octane rating is resistance to boiling. Try to get better coiling -airflow through radiator and stuff. : You've got to get the carb hot enough to boil the gas to vapor lock. Probably the most common way to : cause a vapor lock is when you shut down the engine while it's really hot. If you watch the temp guage : you'll see the temp actually go up for a while after the engine is off. Assuming that you're not getting : the engine THAT hot, a good place to start looking is the coil. Condensors can also break down when they : get too hot. Good Luck. Check the gas tank cover to make sure the vent hole is open. This does not cause vapor lock, but will cause the engine to starve for fuel and quit. Also, make sure you are getting a steady supply of fuel to the fuel filter/carb.
