Nope not just like the XP desktop.
I have the latest version of 8 and it pretty much sucks.
Yes it does default to it's desktop. Try pulling up your program list from the button in the bottom corner of the desktop.
Very different.
Just find the windows text editor if you can.
And make it into an icon on your desktop.
It is my word processor for now since my office pro will not install on 8.
