PED is TGE on steroids. The little pigs die from the scours within hours of contracting it. Older hogs have the stamina to live through the scours but the little ones don't. Like what jstpa said, it's on the floors of every business the hog producers frequent. The virus has been found on the floors of convenience stores in this area. The economic impact is huge. Not only is meat higher priced in the supermarket, but not as much corn, bean meal and other feed stocks is used, creating lower local prices for those commodities. Independent feed haulers don't have as much feed to haul so their income is down, hog hauler's miles are down. It just goes on down the chain. Jim
