Well put, JR. I don't shop WalMart, except for a couple of items that Safeway doesn't carry. But I think there is a legitimate place for those outfits, because while many WANT to buy cheap, there is an ever growing portion of the population that HAS to buy cheap, because they can't afford anything else. As jobs continue to shrink, for a variety of reasons, an increasing number of folks have turned to public assistance, SSI, Disability, and whatever, to try to get enough $$ to survive. Yes, many are unemployable through their own bad choices, and others because they're as dumb as a box of rocks, but I don't think the country as a whole has the political will to just let them starve.
And it doesn't seem to be hurting the local businesses in our town too much- you have to go early to Safeway, unless you want to cruise around the parking lot waiting for a space to open up.
