Like you I could write a book on it and name names. We're extremely lucky for now to have one of the best and most complete small town hardware stores in state a mile from my house. If they ain't got it,you don't need it. The main original location of a,I guess you'd call it a small local chain of lumber yards is a mile and a half from me,so I can honestly tell you I've never been in a Lowes. A Home Depot, maybe once or twice when the wife wanted me to go with her to get some batteries that were cheaper there.

You could drag this out to what's happened to Deeremart. No small local dealers. Where you live will make all the difference, but I can tell you in my case that if the Agco dealer where I go was Deere, they would have had their contract yanked 20 years ago.

Now add the foot soldiers who've been trained over the years to speak for investors who don't have their best interest in mind, and you have people who'll get all worked in to a lather and insist that it's better to buy a product with an American name, built overseas or in Canada or Mexico than it is to buy something made here that has a Japanese name on it. The jobs of the thousands of people making those products and the main street businesses where they spend their money doesn't matter to these guys. As long as they aren't kicked out of an imaginary club house and have their secret decoder ring taken away, that's all that matters.

I don't know what it is about going in a local WalMart for me. Maybe I just don't want to be seen there,I don't know. I'd rather put my hand on a hot stove. But when we're on vacation,I love going there and looking around,as long as it's in another state. I just don't know why that is.

But ya,until that army of foot soldiers stands down and says it's OK to buy an American made product, even if it has a foreign name, there won't be any incentive for American companies to stop being American in name only.

Today's Featured Article - Product Review: JB Weld - by Staff. JB Weld is basically an epoxy glue that does an exceptionally good job of bonding to cast iron and steel along with several other materials. As I mentioned, it is so common that I have yet to buy a tractor that did not have JB Weld used somewhere. It is sometimes used so well you can't tell its there and other times used as a sloppy quick fix. Finding where and how it can be used correctly is key to whether you are using it as an "inelegant hack" or an integral solution to difficult and expens ... [Read Article]
