Requiring health insurance is a JOKE!!! What good is "insurance" that doesn't kick in until you spend $6000 to $8000??? Insurance companies and trial lawyers are the reason that health care and insurance premiums are so expensive today. Example: I go to the doctor with a complaint. Doctor orders a lot of tests. Some to find out what is wrong, some to CYA. Trial lawyers have taken their ambulance chasing to national TV, and are foaming at the mouth for somebody to call in with a complaint. So, the extra testing costs money, and the malpractice insurance are also sky-high. Who pays??? We do. Either from our pockets, our taxes, or higher insurance premiums.
The real cure would be very simple. So simple that it escapes the "leadership" of our country. Just return to the system we had in the '60s. Fee for service, major medical insurance (that only covers MAJOR illness/injury), and accountability.
